Randall "Lee" Martin - Executive Director

Phone: 989.497.0925 x.5

Bio: Lee was named Executive Director of the Valley Library Association (VLC) in 2010.  Before joining the VLC, he worked for the Dexter District Library (DDL) as their Technology Librarian in Dexter, Michigan.  Previous to working at the DDL, Lee was Director of Technology at the Traverse Area District Library (TADL).

After 10 years in the corporate IT field Lee decided to follow his heart and pursue graduate studies in Library and Information Science.  During graduate school Lee worked for the Bloomfield Township Public Library (BTPL) as a Library Intern and the Birmingham Public Schools as a Technical Operational Assistant.

Martin began his professional career working in corporate information technology as a consultant for Electronic Data Systems (EDS).  His early career focused on application support and training before becoming a Project and Program Manager.  As a consultant for EDS, Lee traveled the country and world providing analysis, design and development of fully integrated technology solutions.

Lee currently sits on the executive board of the Customers of SirsiDynix Users Group, Inc. (COSUGI) as the SIG/RUG Liaison.  He is a member of the board of trustees for the White Pine Library Cooperative (WPLC) representing Special Libraries, and is also on the Annual Conference Planning Committee for the Michigan Library Association.

A native Michigander, Martin has lived in South-Eastern Michigan, Mid-Michigan, and Northern Michigan.  He graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Organizational Development, and received his Master's degree in Library and Information Science from the Wayne State University.

Lee considers himself an information junkie.  Looking for Lee and you will most likely find him with his face buried in his iPhone watching and participating in the social discussion of the next generation library.  His career has focused on providing more efficient and streamlined access to information.  One of Lee's passions is providing equitable access to information for all those that seek it.  One of his greatest strengths is the fact that he understands the need to balance the implementation of emerging technologies and philosophies as they apply to the library and more traditional library services.  He is always careful to consider the needs of both the tech-haves and have-nots.

Kay Dunker - Systems Librarian

Phone: 989.497.0925 x.4

Bio: I have a Master of Library Science from Indiana University Bloomington.  My first full time library job was at the Findlay-Hancock Public Library in Findlay, OH.  My position was split between the Reference Department and Technical Services, giving me a unique perspective on librarianship.  Being from Freeland, I moved back to the area in 1996 to work at the White Pine Library Cooperative.  I came to the VLC in December 1997 and have been enjoying my job ever since.  I have three cats, including two Hemingway polydactyl cats that have extra toes on all their feet.  Thanks to their mischievousness my houseplants are slowly beginning to take over my office.

Jon Enge - Systems Analyst

Phone: 989.497.0925 x.2

Bio: I joined the VLC as Systems Analyst in 1998, managing the network and server systems as well as providing front line support. I have enjoyed helping our member libraries navigate the numerous changes in library technology over the years. My previous position was Network Administrator for the Juneau, AK School District.

I graduated from Concordia University Chicago in 1992 with a degree in Computer Science and Business Management and hold serveral professional certifications including Microsoft Certified System Engineer; GIAC Security Essentials, and CompTIA's A+, Network+, and iNet+.

Jo Abbenante - Computer Operator/Office Assistant

Phone: 989.497.0925 x.3

Bio: I have been at Valley Library Consortium for 13 years as a part-time employee and initially pursued this job because I've always loved books and reading.  Prior to that I was in banking for 21 years managing an operations department.  I enjoy working with the members and my day is made when I've contributed or helped someone.  My other outside interest is singing- jazz, religious, and classical; be it for parties, weddings, or funerals.  I feel words and music are two of the greatest gifts we can share and enrich our lives greatly.
